This is a new feature that I am hosting on Nap Time is My Time.   I’ve been dabbling in a few crafty projects these days and want to share them with you while giving you the opportunity to share your craftiness with me too!  Yep, you guessed it – there is a linky at the end of the post!

Fire Pit Transformation

Our backyard is very odd.   It is spacious,  which we love.   Yet it has a lot of concrete leftover from a now-filled-in in-ground pool,  we don’t so much love that.   We use our backyard a lot for family time –  like riding our tricycles,  relaxing in the hammock,  and grilling.   But The Texan and I were looking for something to make the space a little more cozy for nights when it was just the two of us.   Cheap at home date nights are so fun.  Especially if there is a good band playing at the local music venue,  or if one of The Kennedy Clan gets hitched!

We already had this:

Boring, right?   After looking at it like that for two years,  we finally transformed it into this:

Isn’t she pretty?   It was super easy to build, too.   We went to Lowe’s and purchased 33 cheapie paving stones.  And when I say cheap, they were $1.98 a piece.   Lucky us,  the staff doesn’t know how to count and we received 36!

Don’t they look lovely stacked in the back of the truck.  Look at all of that dust!   Ewww!!!

We I decided where we I wanted the pavers and we The Texan placed eleven of them in a circle to form the bottom layer.   Then,  the second layer was added offset from the first to create a more balanced look.   {And yes,  I removed those leaves that are in the circle!}

We continued to add pavers until the second and third layers were completed.   Then,  The Texan popped the cheapie fire pit into the center and added some logs.

I think it came out beautifully.

Don’t you?  The project cost us around $150 – if you include the cost of the fire pit.   If you’re lucky,  you could probably find a cheapie fire pit of your own on clearance.   This is the time when major retailers are cleaning out their outdoor living stock.

Here’s the linky I mentioned earlier.   I’d love for you to share a recent project that you completed.   It can be something you built,  baked,  sewed or painted.  Anything goes – as long as you did it!   This linky will remain open until next Tuesday at 5PM EST.

  1. I love this idea! I’m trying to decide if we can make one in our yard. Maybe, maybe not.:) Can you grill on it? Thanks so much for hosting!

    • Yes – you could grill on it if you wanted. We’ve made s’mores with ours. we don’t cook with our fire pit as our grill is charcoal anyhow, so what would be the point?? Maybe if we needed extra cooking space?

  2. Wow, that’s amazing! It looks so great!

  3. It looks so good, I love it! I want to get a fire pit for our yard too and this is a happy medium between having one custom built and just doing the store-bought thing.

  4. I love it!

    Our problem is wind (we live at the top of a mountain) so something built in like you made would be perfect for us – it certainly wouldn’t blow away!

    You did a really terrific job.
