It’s no secret that I love running! But, one thing I’ve discovered during my running journey is that I can easily talk myself out of running. If it’s too hot, too early, too late, too windy, you name it, I’ll convince myself not to go. I’m too busy, I’d tell myself. That is so ridiculous, isn’t it?! When I lace up my shoes and my feet hit the pavement, it’s an amazing feeling. I love it. Too bad I love air conditioning and watching Fixer Upper marathons just as much.
Over the summer, I was a running machine. I ran nearly every single day. Then one gorgeous August day, I didn’t go. And I didn’t go the next day, or the next. And then, it was October. I lost my breath when I looked at the calendar and realized how long it had been since my last run. Ugh.
It was around that time that I noticed a friend of mine had started running, too. [Thank you, Facebook for keeping me abreast of things!] Not only had she started, but she stuck with it and signed up for a race or two. [You go girl!]
I’m going to tell her about this great giveaway for a chance to win awesome prizes like FitBit Charge, Surge, a Yeti Rambler, and a $200 Lulemon gift card. Awesome, right? Enter using the widget below:
Fueled by want to run again – and maybe a bit of jealously because she’d set a goal and achieved it – I laced up my shoes and started running again. What’s different this time is that I’ve joined a running club. What I love about the running club is that I won’t allow myself to miss it. There’s no cancelling. There’s no excuses. I’m there because I said I would be, even if I’d rather be doing something else.
But there is a drawback to the running club. All the stuff I need to carry. Car keys, phone, lip balm and a goodnessknows® snack square. In the fall, you cannot run without lip balm. It should be a law, if it isn’t already. And, I always need a snack after a run. These bite size squares are perfect post-run. They’re perfectly satisfying too, each serving has 150 calories! You won’t find high fructose corn syrup, artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners either! Go ahead, try a little goodness after your next run.
I bet you’ve seen all of the cool runners with these sporty little belts loaded up with their goodies. The belts are like fanny packs, but way cooler! So, I made one. And you can, too!
1/2 yard of spandex
Scissors or rotary cutter
After measuring your waist – or hips – use the chart below to determine the length of your belt. Keep in mind that measurements may vary slightly depending on the stretch factor of your spandex.
Then cut the spandex to be 14-16 inches wide. The width will depend on what you want to carry. I currently use a smart phone that is two years old, it’s a bit smaller than the newer models available today.
Once you’ve cut your fabric rectangle, fold in half and zig-zag stitch along the edge. A serger would be handy for this step, but I don’t have one.
At this point, your fabric rectangle will be 7-8 inches wide. Fold it in half again. And sew the seams together, leaving a space for the pocket.
Now, turn the tube right side out and serge the ends together.
TA-DA! You did it! You just made yourself a fab running belt!
Before you head out on your next run, be sure to slip a goodnessknows® snack square into your running belt. The goodnessknows® Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate snack square is my favorite flavor. You can also find goodnessknows® snack squares in Apple, Almond & Peanut, Dark Chocolate and Peach & Cherry, Almond, Dark Chocolate flavors. They’re easy to grab in the check out line at your neighborhood Walmart. Don’t forget to grab a coupon before you go!
