Falling in Love with The Texan

I believe that in life, you have one true love. And that falling in love is a deep connection defined by more than the phrase “I Love You.”

I revealed the other day that I don’t feel that I tell The Texan I love him enough, but he’s my one true love.

Sure, there were boyfriends before him. Many of them, some long term, some short term. Some while in college, some with good jobs after college. Some I thought that I truly loved; but after meeting The Texan and falling in love with him, I know that I never loved any of the others. I love the attention, but not them.

Sorry guys.

The Texan and I met on-line. {GASP!} And I almost didn’t show up for our first date. As I was making the 20 minute drive to downtown Orlando, I thought “What on earth am I doing? He could be a serial killer or something!” I called one of my friends, and she reassured me that I should go. That I would be fine. And that she would call {as would other friends} during our lunch date.

When the first call from my friend came in as we stood in line for our sandwiches at Panera, I described his blue eyes, short hair cut, khaki pants, and blue shirt to my friend. The Texan looked perplexed, I told him that I was relaying his description in case I didn’t make it home. The look on his face was nothing but pure shock.

We had a nice lunch outside sitting by Lake Eola. We talked about how we’d found our way to Orlando, what we liked and disliked about it, and chatted about our families, too.

Once lunch was over, I returned to my car and made a phone call to my mother. I told her that I’d met the man I was going to marry. I’m pretty sure that she thought I was nuts.

He proposed 11 months after our first date.

  1. I love that you told him why you were describing him on the phone! I agree there is a connection you feel when it really is “the one”

    • We laugh about it to this day, Laura! He still can’t believe WHY I was describing him. But hey, a girl has to be safe, right?!

  2. Awe 🙂 Love that your friends had your back on your 1st date though. I met hubby online too, but my friends were like “Yeah, good luck with that.” Boy did we ever prove them wrong.

  5. “I told him that I was relaying his description in case I didn’t make it home”

Sorry but I loled at that line ,…since I know you made it home safely 🙂

I know I loved a couple exs just not at the same deep level as my husband. It’s kind of funny how we can just know so quickly that he is the one.

  7. I think it’s hilarious that you described what he looked like…too funny. Totally something I would do.

And having lived near Orlando for 4 years myself (college), I know that exact Panera. Lake Eola is a perfect (and public, lol) place for a first date. But now I’m left wondering…did you go to UCF? I went to Setson a bit north of there, closer to Daytona.

    • No, I went to Bryant University (in Rhode Island). I moved to Orlando after college and worked for two of Darden Restaurants’ brands before moving to Boston.

My sister-in-law is a UCF alum, and several of my friends are, too! What a small world, eh?!

      Are you still in Florida?

  8. What a sweet love story. How wonderful for you both! Fate works in funny ways. 🙂

  9. That’s a great story. I love how you knew you were going to marry him right away. It was the same way for my husband and I. Sometimes the heart just knows.
